Grease Trap Install Project in Chinderah, NSW

Client: Early Learning Facility in Chinderah, New South Wales

In Chinderah, NSW, Citi Industries has completed a successful Grease Trap Project for an Early Childhood Education Centre. This upgrade became necessary to support a new kitchen establishment. The grease trap installation consisted of a 2000-litre below-ground grease trap with Class D lids and other plumbing solutions.

The team ensured the entire system encompassed trade waste and health authority requirements regarding plumbing, drainage, and compliance work, which were handled by the project from start to finish with safety and quality in mind.

Problems Faced by the Client

As part of their facility improvement plan, the Early Childhood Education Centre in Chinderah, NSW aimed to establish a fully functioning kitchen. The facility had to cater to in-house meal preparation for staff and children. However, several vital infrastructure facilities were not present on-site to comply with trade waste and health regulations.

Immediately, the following problems had to be addressed:

  • Kitchen wastewater and grease runoff were not appropriately planned in a trade waste system.
  • The design of a suspended timber floor limited good access for installing new drainage connections.
  • Hot and cold water plumbing to the designated kitchen area was still to be routed.
  • The site was still operational and required strict safety controls to protect children, educators, and visitors.
  • Due to its nature as a licenced childcare provider, stringent compliance requirements were in place.

Given these factors, the project demanded precise planning, compliance expertise, and a commitment to safety. The centre needed a reliable contractor who could deliver a turnkey solution without interfering with their daily routines or putting anyone at risk.

Solutions Provided by Citi Industries

Citi Industries proposed a comprehensive plumbing and trade waste solution in collaboration with the Early Childhood Education Centre in Chinderah. The focus was on designing a functional system that was also future-proof and complied with a myriad of health and safety regulations in New South Wales.

Recognising that the operational environment of a childcare facility is such that safety, cleanliness, and minimal disruption are of the utmost importance, our team took a very considerate approach when planning and executing this project while paying acute attention to the tiniest little details.

Here’s how we delivered the solution effectively and efficiently:

  • Excavated and installed a below-ground grease trap rated for vehicular traffic Class D lids with a capacity of 2000 litres.
  • Run vent lines to the atmosphere to eliminate odour risks and reduce pressure build-up in both tanks and pipework.
  • A new trade waste drainage line was installed under the suspended floor, and all kitchen fixtures were connected.
  • Connected hot and cold water supply lines to each fixture, ensuring immediate use for safe food preparation
  • Fitted off key fixtures, such as sinks and floor drains, with appropriate water and waste connections
  • Barricaded the work area securely, ensuring a safe environment for children, educators, and passersby
  • Installed an RPZD backflow prevention device on the nearest hose tap to safeguard against water contamination
  • Installed bucket traps in floor waste outlets to support hygiene and waste filtering

Every aspect of the system-from excavation to final fixture fit-off-was carried out according to industry standards. The whole process went smoothly with minimal disruption to the centre’s daily activities so the children could learn and play safely. At the same time, vital infrastructure work was completed in the background.

Results of the Project

Installing a grease trap immediately benefited the Early Childhood Education Centre in the long run. It has improved the kitchen’s operation, enabling the centre to meet health, safety, and compliance codes. The project could take a challenging site seriously and make it usable and compliant through sound engineering and skilled quality.

Key outcomes included:

  • A compliant trade waste system seamlessly integrated into the kitchen design
  • A durable concrete finish around the grease trap lids that is clean, strong, and safe
  • Easy and safe access to drainage infrastructure for future inspection or maintenance
  • Reduced risk of plumbing failures or health regulation breaches
  • A dependable water supply connected to all kitchen fixtures and appliances
  • Enhanced waste control, achieved through proper venting and floor trap systems
  • A restored site environment, neat and hazard-free, suitable for children and staff

By the end of the project, the team made the plumbing system reliable and efficient, enabling it to confidently support day-to-day food operations. They upheld the highest standards of quality and safety, completing the project on schedule and in full compliance with the code. As a result, the site gained peace of mind and began business operations with a fully functional kitchen.
