A wash bay facility was designed and commissioned by Citi Industries for a plant and machinery facility in Logan Village, QLD. The purpose of this project was to put a system in place that organised their wastewater management processes while conforming to the guiding local council regulations. The scope of work for this project required expertise in wastewater treatment, stormwater diversion, and infrastructure connectivity to ensure optimal performance and sustainability.
Problem Faced by the Client
Management of wastewater from wash bay operations has been a problem for the client. The old facility is not equipped with proper systems for waste segregation, water recycling, and environmental compliance. It had the following problems:
- Inefficient handling of trade waste and stormwater.
- No infrastructure for oil separation or wastewater treatment.
- Non-compliance with council standards for stormwater diversion and backflow prevention.
The perils of environmental damage, regulatory fines and operational incompetence, have warranted provision of an efficient and solid solution.
Solutions Provided by Citi Industries
Citi Industries implemented a comprehensive solution tailored to the client’s specific needs. The project included:
- Installation of a 5000-Litre Concrete Holding Tank:
- Fitted with a Class D lid to handle wastewater storage securely.
- Oil Separator and Pump System:
- Installed a 3000-litre oil separator capable of processing 1300 litres per hour.
- Integrated a diaphragm suction pump and control float switch for efficient waste management.
- Control Panels for System Operations:
- Installed two control panels to regulate the wastewater treatment and stormwater diversion systems.
- FF600 First Flush Stormwater Diversion System:
- Equipped with a control panel, floats, and a Class D grate for effective stormwater management.
- Trade Waste and Stormwater Connections:
- Installed trade waste pipework to link tanks and pits.
- Connected the system to the sewer line near the wash bay zone and the stormwater line behind it.
- Additional Enhancements:
- Added a water line for a new hose tap.
- Installed and registered a backflow valve to comply with council requirements.
It achieved efficient waste management and conformance to environmental regulation in an all-inclusive unit installation..
Results of the Project
The wash bay system delivered the following results:
- Environmental Compliance:
The system met all council standards, reducing the risk of fines and ensuring environmental safety. - Operational Efficiency:
The oil separator and first flush stormwater system streamlined waste management, handling up to 1300 litres per hour effectively. - Long-Term Durability:
The use of high-quality materials like Class D grates and lids ensured a reliable and sustainable setup. - Improved Water Management:
The backflow valve and additional water line improved water flow and system functionality.
